Referencing Ethnicity through Logic
The Hispanic origin and Multi-select Race questions that are asked of respondents in our panel assign them to a single ethnicity trait option, as outlined here. If you would like the flexibility to reference or screen respondents with specific Race and/or Ethnicity traits, you can use survey logic during programming to do so.
Using the ethnicity variable
The ethnicity trait what we use for setting filters and quotas on the Target Market page. It is included in logic autocomplete, is available as a filter and Virtual Question preset on the Results page, and exports in raw data files under the ethnicity column. It uses these rules to take a panelist/respondent's answers to the two-question set and assign them to one ethnicity/race value. This is particularly useful for setting quotas on ethnicity/race demographics. |

Using the "Hispanic" ethnicity variable in survey programming
The binary Hispanic origin question (or USH question) can be referenced independently of the choices selected at the multi-select race question. Since the

Referencing race (including Hispanic) in survey programming
The Multi-select Race question stores the races selected under an array called race that can be referenced in logic. This is a way to identify those who select a certain race, regardless of their Hispanic origin or other races selected. Since multiple values can be selected in the self-identification race question, these selections are stored under an array that uses a little different syntax to reference; please see the example below and note the use of
