US Ethnicity/Race demographic trait classifications
When determining United States respondents' Race and Ethnicity demographics, aytm asks two separate questions to align as closely as possible with US Census definitions.
Hispanic origin ethnicity question
Multiselect Race question
Static Definitions for ethnicity
These two questions provide a mutually exclusive view of ethnicity/race based on the following definitions. The ethnicity trait is available on the Target Market page of a survey to be used in sample filters and quotas, the Survey Editor page through aytm Logic, and the Results page for use in survey analysis.
US Hispanic | Race(s) selected | Ethnicity |
Yes | N/A, Any selction(s) | Hispanic/Latino (American), regardless of other Race identified |
No | Black/African-American only | Black/African-American |
No | Asian only | Asian (American) |
No | Native American only | Native American |
No | White only | White (American) |
No | Other | Other, regardless of number of variants selected by respondent |
No | Multiple options selected, but not Other | Multiracial |
For surveys launched prior to our demographic update in 2022, race and ethnicity questions were explored in a different format. On those surveys, there may be a Race or Ethnicity marked as "Indian-American".
