When you launch a List Survey, you can add a unique user identifier (UUID) to the end of each survey link. aytm records the UUID with that person's response, so you can match results to individual respondents, let them resume interrupted sessions, and limit repeat responses.

Building UUID Links
Give each respondent their own UUID. It can be any value—an ID from your own system, a number, or an email address—as long as no two people share it.
Example Structure
-
Base link:
aytm.com/yoursurveylink -
Parameter:
?uuid=
| Respondent | Survey link |
|---|---|
| Respondent 1001 | aytm.com/yoursurveylink?uuid=1001 |
| Respondent 1002 | aytm.com/yoursurveylink?uuid=1002 |
| john.doe@example.com | aytm.com/yoursurveylink?uuid=john.doe@example.com |
Characters like @ are kept as-is, so email addresses work as UUIDs. Each link can have only one UUID.
💡 Tip: Email addresses used as UUIDs appear in your survey links and in your data exports. If you'd rather keep personal data out of both, use an ID from your own system instead.
Tracking Traffic Sources
To see which channel respondents came from—such as Facebook, Instagram, or an email invite—add a pass-through variable to the link instead of a shared UUID.
⚠️ Note: Don't give everyone from the same source the same UUID (for example,
?uuid=facebook). aytm treats everyone with the same UUID as one person, so a second visitor can land inside the first visitor's unfinished survey. If Allow only 1 answer from the same UUID? is on, only one person per source can take the survey.
| Source | Survey link |
|---|---|
aytm.com/yoursurveylink?var_source=facebook |
|
aytm.com/yoursurveylink?var_source=instagram |
|
| Email invite (with a UUID) | aytm.com/yoursurveylink?uuid=1001&var_source=email |
Post each link on its matching channel. To learn more, see Appending Variables to Survey Links.
How It Works
When a respondent opens a link with a UUID, aytm:
- Records the UUID with their response.
- Includes it as a
UUIDcolumn in Excel and CSV data exports. The column is visible to the survey owner and admins. - Lets them resume an unfinished session. If they open the same link on another device, they'll land on the last unanswered question.
- Keeps any other pass-through variables you add to the link alongside the UUID.
Limiting Responses by UUID
Two options in the Options section of the Target Market page use UUIDs to control access:
- Allow only 1 answer from the same UUID?—blocks a UUID once it has a finished attempt.
- Don't record responses without UUID?—blocks any link that has no UUID.
