What is a List survey?
aytm offers two types of surveys: Panel Surveys and List Surveys. Both come with a statistics page of aggregated data and access to the same features. The main difference is how the survey is distributed — create a List Survey to reach your own list of respondents, contacts, or emails.
How does a List survey get distributed?
Once you are ready to check out, we will provide a link and embed code for you to distribute your List Survey. A few ways you can share it:
- Email campaign
- Social media
- Your website
- Embedded in your blog
Please note that aytm does not send emails on your behalf — you will need to distribute the link using your own method (email client, CRM, etc.).
To learn more, check out our article List Survey: Distribution Methods.
How much do List surveys cost?
Because you are providing your own sample when launching a List Survey, a tech fee applies. Certain question types may also incur an additional fee, including Shelf Test, Image Response, and Video Response.
Response thresholds and included completes vary by plan. To understand what's included in your current plan or to discuss additional completes, reach out to our team.
Creating Unique Identifiers
If you are launching a survey to your own list of respondents, aytm's List Survey, you can assign a unique identifier to help with your data analysis. You can include a Universal Unique Identifier (UUID) at the end of the link to a List Survey in order to track the responses by source or individual. The UUID can be anything you need, as long as that specific link goes to the right person.

GDPR
What is GDPR? General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is used to modernize data privacy laws by replacing the previous EU Data Protection Directive. Online Surveys are included in these protection laws. While we do keep our surveys anonymous from personal identifiers such as name, address, email, etc., we do collect demographic information as well as any info that might be inputted from a Panel or List Survey that are protected under these laws.
Do I need to be GDPR compliant? If planning to launch a survey with any respondents in the EU, you must become GDPR compliant.
How do I become GDPR compliant? To see if you are GDPR compliant, locate the GDPR page:
- From your dashboard, click on GDPR under the Account tab at the top of the aytm page. You will then be sent to a new page that will show you your compliance status.
- Your status will be "UNKNOWN" until you complete the test. You can complete the quick GDPR compliance test by clicking Take Survey Now.

Customizing a List Survey
With a List survey, there is more freedom to customize the respondent experience, by editing your survey’s appearance and even tailoring specific aspects of your study to each respondent.
-
Editing the appearance:
-
Because List Surveys may be sent to past customers, employees, social media followers, etc., you might want to customize your survey's appearance to fit your branding. Easily modify your List Survey's appearance including; adding a logo or changing the background image.

-
Creating Custom Variables:
- You can append data to your survey results using pass through variables in the survey link (URL). Use variables to automatically include data you already know about your respondents so that you can use it in your results. Variables can also be used to pipe data and customize the survey for a respondent.

Custom 'Thank You' Message
A custom thank you message is a singular message that will be shown to all respondents upon completing a survey. To add a custom thank you message:
- Click the drop-down menu and select Custom Thank you Message at the bottom of the Survey Editor.
- Type your custom message into the text box, and it will be displayed after respondents complete the survey.
- Click Quick Preview to view the custom message.
Custom Forwarding URLs
Set up custom forwarding URLs and direct respondents to a specific destination—like a thank-you page, product site, or incentive claim—after they complete the survey. To add a forwarding URL:
- Click the drop-down menu and select Set up custom forwarding URLs at the bottom of the Survey Editor.
- Add the relevant URLs to the following categories:
- Success URL: Directs respondents who complete all survey questions to a designated webpage—often a thank-you page, follow-up content, or next step in a campaign.
- Failure URL: Redirects respondents who are disqualified or screened out of the survey (e.g., due to not meeting criteria) to a specific page, such as a polite exit message or alternative offer.
- Overquota URL: Sends respondents to a webpage when the desired number of responses has already been met, helping manage expectations and maintain a positive user experience.
You can choose to include URLs for one, two, or all three categories—only add what’s relevant to your survey experience.
Note: Custom Forwarding URLs are not permitted for third-party redirects, as it violates our Terms of Use policy and our platform does not support it.
Incentive Management
At an additional cost, aytm will provide incentive management to clients distributing list surveys. Please note, we will deliver the incentive only, and it is up to the client to provide their own sample of respondents.
To qualify for Incentive management, the survey must include either:
- A Form question to capture the respondent’s email address at the beginning or end of the survey
e.g. “Please list the email you would like your incentive sent to. Be sure to verify that your email is correct before submitting.”
OR - A UUID list link + unique identifiers for each respondent. Please provide a document of the unique ID for each respondent and the email address associated with each UUID so we can deliver the incentives.
If Incentive Management is something you would like to pursue, please open up a chat with our team or reach out to your account manager
