Enhance respondent recall by embedding up to two videos directly within single choice, checkbox, slider, or polarity scale survey questions. This feature allows you to display previously-viewed video content alongside related questions—similar to piped-in images—providing a visual reference without relying solely on memory.
This feature uses Smart Loops for content delivery; please contact your account manager or support@aytm.com to have this feature enabled for your account.
How does it work?
This feature exclusively supports single choice, checkbox, slider, and polarity scale question types, using Smart Loop references and variables to dynamically insert videos into those questions.
Click on a question type icon within your survey, or the New Question button at the bottom of the survey, and select the Add a/Convert into a Smart Loop button in top right corner of the menu.
Click the + button to the right of the table and select Video Variable. To show multiple videos, add additional Video Variables to the Smart Loop table.
In the table, click the Video drop-down icon to upload a video from your computer, or drag and drop a video over the drop target.
Add a Video question type as the first question of the Smart Loop.
Note: this step is optional, but highly recommended, as it allows you to require video viewing, whereas any other question types will not have viewing requirements.Add any desired Radio Button, Checkbox, Slider, or Polarity Scale question types into your Smart Loop.
In each question text field, add the reference for the appropriate video variable (e.g. [variable_2]) to pipe the video alongside actual question text.
Finish setting up the Smart Loop with the appropriate settings.
Note: If you prefer not to use a Smart Loop, after you have added the videos to the table, click the gear icon on the right side of the Smart Loop and select Convert to Regular Questions. Once converted, you’ll notice the Smart Loop variable logic changes to an [asset "vd..."] format. Do not modify this logic, as it ensures the correct video remains properly piped into all relevant questions.
Respondent Experience
When a video is piped into a question, the video(s) will display above the question and answer text. If you have piped two videos into a single question, respondents may click the Second Video and First Video buttons to switch between videos. Respondents may ignore the video(s), and may make an answer selection at any time.
Note: at this time, there is no requirement that respondents watch the video(s) in their entirety with this method; if you would like to require full video viewing, you must add the video(s) as video question(s) and adjust the view settings before advancing respondents to subsequently-piped questions.
Stats Page
For quality assurance purposes, you can track whether respondents clicked on the piped-in video. This information is recorded as a custom variable and is accessible on the stats page.
In the stats page:
Click on the Filters icon in the left tool bar.
Scroll down to Filter by Variables.
Select the desired variable, which will be titled as status: .
Check the boxes to select Completed, and/or Screened out.
Click Apply Filters.
Exports
Within Excel, Excel with coded maps, and Raw CSV exports, new columns will be added, showing the starting position for each stimulus among the set. In the exports you'll see references to and corresponding columns for Q#M#PV (Question number, media number, position value).
