Once your Menu Test has collected responses, the stats page gives you four analytics blocks—Menu Metrics, Section Metrics, Item Metrics, and Comments. Each block answers a different research question about how respondents interacted with your menu.

Navigating the Stats Page
Open your survey results and select the Menu Test question from the question list. The stats page loads with all four analytics blocks stacked vertically. You can jump between them using the block headers or by scrolling.
If your Menu Test included a delivery options setting (Dine in, Drive thru, Pick up, or Delivery), a delivery filter appears at the top of the stats page. Use it to segment all four blocks by order type—for example, see whether "Delivery" customers choose differently than "Dine in" customers.
⚠️ Note: The delivery filter is a view-only control. It changes what you see on screen and what the presentation export captures, but data exports (CSV, Excel, SPSS, JMP) always include the full cohort.
Menu Metrics: The Heatmap
Menu Metrics displays your menu image overlaid with behavioral data, showing where respondents clicked and how they navigated the menu. This is the most visual block and typically the first place to look.
Use the view selector to switch between four heatmap modes:
| View | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Menu Heatmap by sections | Section-grouped density contours overlaid on the menu image. Useful for seeing which menu sections received the most attention and click density. |
| Menu Heatmap by clicks | Click-density contours across the full menu image, regardless of section boundaries. Useful for seeing overall click concentration at a glance. |
| Clicks | Every individual click shown as a dot on the menu image. Use this view when you need precise, non-smoothed data for reporting or when sections overlap. |
| Plain image with sections | The menu image with section borders outlined and no heatmap fill. Useful for verifying section layout and reviewing section boundaries clearly. |
You can export the heatmap view as an image file (PNG, JPEG, PDF, or EPS) using the export button in the block header.
Section Metrics
Section Metrics breaks down performance by each section you drew on the menu image. This is where you answer questions like "Which section got the most orders?" and "Which section was ignored?"
Use the view-mode dropdown to switch between seven metrics. Each one renders as a bar chart with a matching table below it.
| View Mode | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Respondents opened section (default) | The proportion of respondents who opened this section. |
| Respondents purchased from section | The proportion of respondents who purchased at least one menu item from this section. |
| Purchase quantity | The average number of menu items purchased from each section. |
| Section purchase amount | The average spend on each section, among respondents who purchased from it. |
| Attention span | The average time respondents spent viewing each section, among those who opened it. |
| Time to first click | The average time between entering the exercise and clicking on each section for the first time. The clock starts when the menu image loads, so the instruction screen doesn't count toward it. |
| Time to order | The average time between entering the exercise and adding the first item from each section to the order, among those who purchased from it. |
The two count-based views—Respondents opened section and Respondents purchased from section—can be displayed as respondent counts or as percentages. The remaining views use their own units (quantities, currency, seconds) and are shown as values only.
Section detail cards
Below the table, each section gets its own card showing a thumbnail of the menu image cropped to that section's shape. Click the thumbnail to zoom it. Expand a card to see all seven metrics for that section side by side, including the opened and purchased counts with their percentages—the quickest way to see how many respondents looked at a section versus how many actually ordered from it. You can expand as many cards as you like at once, or use Expand all / Collapse all.
💡 Tip: The gap between the opened rate and the purchased rate is one of the most diagnostic numbers in Menu Test. A large gap in a specific section often points to a pricing, description, or placement issue worth investigating.
Item Metrics
Item Metrics shows performance data for each individual menu item across all sections it appeared in. Use this block to rank items, identify top performers, and flag items that may need repositioning or repricing.
The following metrics are available for each item:
| View Mode | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Purchase selection (default) | The proportion of respondents who purchased each menu item. |
| Purchase quantity | The average number of each menu item purchased, among respondents who purchased it. |
| Purchase amount | The average spend on each menu item, among respondents who purchased it. |
| Time to order | The average time from the start of the exercise to adding each menu item to the order, among respondents who purchased it. |
If you attached images to your menu items, each table row shows the item's thumbnail next to its name. Hover to preview it, or click to open it full size. Items without an image simply have no thumbnail.
💡 Tip: Sort the item metrics table by purchase rate to quickly identify your strongest and weakest performers. Items with high average spend but low purchase rate may benefit from a description or placement change to drive more trial.
Comments
The Comments block shows all verbatim feedback respondents submitted along with their orders.
Two views are available:
- Verbatim—the full text of every order comment, shown alongside each respondent's order context (delivery option, total items ordered). Useful for qualitative review and spotting recurring themes.
- Word cloud—a visual frequency map of the most common words across all comments. Larger words appear more frequently. Use this view for a quick read of dominant themes before diving into the verbatim list.
Comments are also processed with AI-powered auto-coding and sentiment analysis. Positive, neutral, and negative sentiments are labeled on each response, and the auto-coded themes appear in the verbatim view to help you group and filter feedback at scale.
Exporting Results
- Heatmap—export as PNG, JPEG, PDF, or EPS from the Menu Metrics block.
- Section and Item data—export as CSV, Excel, SPSS, or JMP via the platform-level sidebar panel.
- Presentation—export to PowerPoint, PDF, or Keynote. Each Menu Test question produces a slide with the heatmap, the section and item charts and tables, and a summary table. Section thumbnails and menu item thumbnails carry over to the slide.
- Comments—export as CSV including verbatim text, sentiment labels, and order context.
💡 Tip: The presentation export uses whatever view mode, chart mode, and delivery filter you have active on screen. Set the page up the way you want the slide to look before exporting.
