Stimuli are what your study puts under test—package designs or ads for a concept test, or a list of names for a naming study. The Stimuli card is the one place in a Bridge study where you add content directly rather than asking Skipper for it.

Two Kinds of Stimuli
The card has two different faces. Which one you get is set when your study's methodology is chosen, and Skipper may adjust it—for example, to a list when every concept is text only. It isn't worked out from the files you add, and you can't switch faces from the card.
- A grid of tiles, for images. Each tile is one concept: a picture, a name, and an optional description.
- A numbered list, for stimuli that are words—names or claims, say. Each line is one option. On a naming study the card is titled Names instead of Stimuli.
Both write to the same place, so nothing is lost if your methodology changes—the card just re-plates itself to match.
💡 Tip: An image concept test often starts with text-only placeholder concepts waiting for their uploads. That's normal—the card normally stays a grid, and your uploads fill those placeholders.
Adding Images
Expand the card first. Collapsed, it shows thumbnails only and doesn't accept files.
- Click the Add concept tile at the end of the grid to open the file picker, or drag files straight onto the grid.
- Your files upload and appear as tiles. You can add several at once. New files fill any waiting placeholder concepts first, in order, then add new tiles.
- To swap a picture, hover a tile and use the Replace button in its top-left corner—or just drop a new file onto the tile.
- To take a concept out, use the X in its top-right corner.
Images only, up to 30 MB per file. A file that doesn't fit is listed in red under the grid with the reason—for example, This set takes images only or Exceeds 30MB limit.
⚠️ Note: Remove takes the whole concept—its name, its description, and its file—not just the picture, and there's no undo. If you only want to change the image, use Replace instead.
Clicking a tile's picture opens a larger view of it. The order of the set is Skipper's; neither the grid nor the list offers a way to rearrange it, so ask in the conversation if the order matters.
Naming and Describing a Concept
Each tile has an edit control (Edit name and description) at the end of its caption, revealed when you hover it or focus it with the keyboard.
- Click the edit control. The tile's face turns into a small form with the concept's name and description.
- Type your changes, then click Update—or press Enter in the name field. A name is required.
- Press Escape or click Cancel to discard. Nothing is written unless you commit.
One form is open at a time; opening a second closes the first, and adding a file while a form is open discards it too. Renames and new uploads are saved together, so renaming a concept and dropping a file in the same breath is one change, not two—the save goes out once the uploads on the card have finished.
Adding Wordings
When your stimuli are words, the card is a list instead, and it's built for pasting.
- Copy your options from a spreadsheet or document—one per line.
- Paste into the list. Each line becomes its own option, added to the end of the list. Numbering and bullets are removed, and blank lines are skipped.
- Use the Add … option button (for example, Add 4th option) to append a single option, or click any line to edit it in place.
Hover a line to reveal its X to remove it. Copy all copies the whole list.
This surface calls each entry an option rather than a concept—same idea, different word, matching what Skipper calls them in conversation about a naming study.
If Something Goes Wrong
A tile shows a warning instead of a picture. The file couldn't be processed or is no longer available. The tile stays interactive so you can recover it—click it or drop a new file on it to replace that concept in place.
A new tile has a red border and a warning sign. Its upload or processing failed. Click the tile to retry, or use its X to dismiss it. Retry or dismiss failed uploads promptly—other changes on the card wait for them.
Nothing on the card saves. Check for two concepts or options with the same name. The card tells you it won't save while two of them share a name; rename one.
A long name is cut off. Hover it on the tile and the full name appears in a wrapping tooltip.
A removal flashes and doesn't take. The card saves one change at a time, so a removal clicked while it's still saving another change—such as uploads that just finished—is refused rather than silently queued. Wait a moment and click again—your other work isn't lost.
A tile is still spinning. It's uploading or processing. Tiles in that state don't accept replacements—a file dropped on one is added as a new concept instead. Use the X on an uploading tile to cancel the upload.
💡 Tip: Your stimuli feed the survey draft, so add them before asking Skipper to polish the questionnaire. Concepts that arrive later mean the draft has to be revisited.
