On the Results page, charts open at a best-fit scale—the y-axis stops just above the tallest bar, so there is little empty space at the top of the chart. Zooming lets you switch between that best-fit view and the question's full scale, or drag to focus on a narrower range of values.

Zooming In and Out
Click the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of a chart. It is a single toggle with two levels—best fit and full scale—and the icon shows the action it will perform next:
| Current view | Icon and tooltip |
|---|---|
| Best fit (default) | Zoom-out glass—Zoom out to full scale |
| Full scale | Zoom-in glass—Zoom in to best fit |
There are no incremental zoom steps. Apart from a range you drag out yourself, a chart is either at best fit or at full scale.
💡 Tip: The toggle is keyboard-operable. Tab to the magnifying glass and press Enter or Space.
What Full Scale Shows
At full scale, the y-axis runs to one of the following, rounded up to the nearest axis tick:
- 100%—when the chart is displayed in percentages.
- The question's response base—when the chart is displayed in counts. This is the number of responses when Count responses in multiple choice Qs is on, and the number of respondents when it is off.
⚠️ Note: Full scale reflects responses or respondents for that question—not the number of completes in the survey.
Setting the Default Chart View
To open every chart at full scale instead of best fit:
- Click the View Options tab.
- Select the checkbox for Zoom out all charts to full scale.
This setting is saved for you and carries across reports, so charts keep opening at full scale until you clear the checkbox. The checkbox is available in Charts mode only—it is disabled in other result views, such as Comments.
⚠️ Note: Zoom set on an individual chart overrides this global setting and sticks to that question. It is saved with the report, so it survives a reload and is kept when the report is shared, and selecting the global checkbox will not pull that question back in line. A per-question override is cleared by switching that chart to a pie chart, changing the global demographic split, or removing the question from the report.
Isolating a Range of Values
Click and drag vertically across a chart to limit the y-axis to that range of values. The selection applies to the value axis only—it narrows the scale, it does not filter which bars appear—and the resulting bounds are rounded to clean values.
Any bar whose value extends past the top of the visible range is drawn with a square top instead of the rounded top that marks the true end of a bar.
⚠️ Note: When data falls outside the visible range, the magnifying glass turns orange to signal that the question has data that is not currently in view.
To leave a dragged range, click the magnifying glass. It returns the chart to the report-wide zoom level—best fit or full scale, depending on your View Options setting.
When the Magnifying Glass Isn't Available
The zoom control is hidden—not greyed out—in these cases:
- The chart has no value axis to rescale, such as a pie chart.
- The axis already sits at the data's own minimum and maximum, so there is nothing to zoom to.
- A demographic split is applied, except for question types that allow zooming with a split.
