When using a Shelf Test, you may have a specific order you wish for items to appear in. Whether you've chosen Auto-flow mode or Planogram mode, after you've configured your shelves, enter Shelf Logic in the question text box to add products to your shelves through {braces}, or add Shelf Logic through Bulk Uploads. In Planogram mode, Shelf Logic works in sections, top to bottom, left to right by column (by section). Make sure the number of shelves in the table matches the number of shelves programmed in the logic (indicated by {braces}).

Shelf Logic Alignment Commands
There are five commands to align your products on the shelves: shelf, shelf-left, shelf-right, shelf-center, and shelf-flex.
- shelf (the default command) and shelf-center — automatically center products on the shelf.
- shelf-left — left-justify products.
- shelf-right — right-justify products.
- shelf-flex — add spacing between products.
-
shelf-group — displays a single price tag for each product grouping. For example, if there are 3 products total, the command
[Shelf-group {1,1,1},{2,2,2},{3,3,3}]will assign one price tag to each group (1, 2, 3), resulting in a total of 3 price tags.
⚠️ Note: If you want a price tag per facing, continue to use
[shelf-flex]logic. Only one shelf command may be used per Shelf Test question.
Programming Shelf Logic
- Type a
[followed by your shelf alignment command. - Type
{to indicate the beginning of a new shelf, followed by the Product Numbers you would like to appear on that shelf. - Type
}to indicate the end of a shelf. Follow with a comma and an open{to continue creating additional shelves, or a]to indicate the end of the logic chain.
⚠️ Note: To avoid errors, the number of shelves used in your logic must match the number of shelves selected in the dropdown below your question.
Multiple Facings
If you want a product to appear more than once on a shelf, you must also type the corresponding answer/product number more than once.
⚠️ Note: Shelf Logic overrides selections made on the Product Card. Even if you indicated multiple facings in the Product Card, you must specify where those facings show up on the shelf in the logic chain.
Club Store Logic
When programming shelf logic for Club stores, the order of your shelves (as designated by {braces}) moves left to right along the top row, then left to right along the middle row (if applicable), and then left to right along the bottom row.
- If you select 1 Pallet + display shelf, you must program products into 2 braces (display shelves display automatically, regardless of logic).
- If you select 1 Pallet + 1 shelf, you must program 4 braces.
- If you select 1 Pallet + 2 shelves, you must program 6 braces.
- If you select 2 Pallets + display shelf, you must program 4 braces (display shelves automatically display, regardless of logic).
- If you select 2 Pallets + 1 shelf, you must program products into 8 braces.
- If you select 2 Pallets + 2 shelves, you must program products into 12 braces.
Custom Shelf Configurations Within Auto-flow
Within Auto-flow mode, if you would like to configure custom dimensions for shelves or use hanging shelves, you can call up a single Shelf Configuration table (like those in Planogram mode).
- In the Question text field, enter the logic
[[shelfconfig]]. This will add a new shelf section. - Use the table to customize shelf height(s) and widths, and utilize hanging shelves.
Possible Errors
If an error occurs, check the consistency for these three items:
- Shelf Numbers — number of shelves selected does not match the number of shelves typed in braces in your logic.
- Actual Spacing — Product Editor keeps track of how large your items are, and if there is enough room for them on a standard store shelf. If you put so many items on a shelf that they would not physically fit in real life, it will result in an error.
- Missing products — e.g., there are 20 products in your "answer" but only 19 written in the Shelf Logic.
