Smart Review is Skipper's AI-powered, question-by-question audit of your entire survey, available on the Survey Editor page to users with edit access. Viewers can still ask Skipper questions there, but Smart Review is disabled for them—if a viewer asks for a review, Skipper replies with a restriction message instead of generating suggestions.
This article is part of the Skipper Chat guide. For an overview of the assistant and what it can do on each page, see Skipper Chat Overview.

Starting a Review
Start Smart Review by clicking the "Run Smart review for my survey" pill on the greeting screen, or by asking in plain language—e.g., "Review my survey".
Either way, Skipper interprets your intent, and if it's ambiguous, it asks you to confirm before starting. When a review begins, and again when it finishes, Skipper broadcasts a notice to your survey collaborators, so teammates can see a review is in progress.
How the Review Is Structured
Smart Review runs in three passes:
- Survey-level report—on the first turn, Skipper summarizes overall issues and flags anything critical with a ❗ icon. This includes deterministic checks, such as incomplete Smart Loop variable assignments.
- Per-question hard validation—blocking problems (e.g., missing media, invalid configuration) are shown first. These aren't suggestions you can apply—click Proceed to move that question into the suggestion phase.
- Per-question suggestions—Skipper proposes improvements one at a time, each with a preview of the modified question.
Acting on a Suggestion
For every suggestion, you can:
- Apply—apply the proposed change to your survey. For a suggestion to remove a question, this button is relabeled Delete [Q#], so it's clear what will happen.
- Dismiss—skip it and move on.
- Why?—expand an inline explanation of Skipper's reasoning. The link toggles to Hide to collapse it again; asking doesn't advance the review.
You can also type a question about the current suggestion—e.g., "What's the risk with this wording?" Skipper answers conversationally without resolving the suggestion, so Apply and Dismiss stay available while you decide.
Finishing Up
After you Apply or Dismiss a suggestion, Skipper automatically fetches the next item until the survey is fully reviewed, then posts a wrap-up listing anything still outstanding. If a particular suggestion can't be generated, Skipper shows a short failure notice with a single Proceed button so the review can continue.
⚠️ Note: Applying a suggestion edits your survey immediately. If you change your mind, click the Undo button in the editor toolbar or press Cmd+Z (Mac) / Ctrl+Z (Windows). As with all AI output, review changes before relying on them.
