Checkout is where your finished design becomes an order. You review the total, choose how to pay, accept the terms, and pay—all on one card. This article walks through that card and explains what happens once your payment goes through.

Before You Begin
The checkout card is on the canvas from the very start of your study, in the Fielding stage, with the note Finish design to launch your study. It opens when all four design steps read Done and your study moves to Ready to Launch.
Bridge then runs a quick final check of your survey and your audience. While it runs, the card's pill reads Validating and the card can't be changed. When it passes, Skipper posts: Everything's ready on the Checkout card: pick your budget, accept the terms, and hit pay whenever you're ready.
If the check finds a problem, the study goes back to Design and Skipper reopens the step that needs fixing. You'll see a message such as Checkout handed the study back: the survey did not pass its final check. Skipper is working on it. You don't need to do anything—Skipper picks it up.
Only the person who created the study can pay for it. Anyone else who opens the study sees the checkout card folded to Order details hidden.
The Checkout Card
The card opens under the heading Review your order / Ready to launch. Its rows start collapsed—click any row to open it.
| Row | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Order total | The line items—your sample, a single aytm platform technology use line, and any others—then Subtotal, any discount, Taxes, and Total. This is also where you enter a promo code. |
| Payment method | Where the money comes from: a team budget, a saved card, or both. Reads Update needed while the total isn't covered. |
| Physical address | The billing address used for tax. Reads Missing if there isn't one. |
Below the rows are the terms checkboxes—I agree to the Terms and Privacy Policy—and the pay button, which states exactly what you'll be charged: Pay {total} and launch study.
The price is recalculated from your study as it stands when checkout opens, so this total is the one you'll pay. Prices are in US dollars.
Paying for Your Study
- Open Order total and check the lines. If you have a promo code, click Have a promocode?, enter it, and click Apply. The discount appears as a Discount · {code} pill, which you can remove.
-
Open Payment method and choose how to pay:
- Team budget—pick a budget. If it doesn't cover the whole total, the row shows how much is left to cover and offers a Card for the remainder.
- Card—pick one of your saved cards.
Each source shows how much will be taken from it. If your team has no budget, the row tells you Your team has no budget—this study is paid by card. 📸 [SCREENGRAB: The Payment method row with the Team budget / Card tabs and a remainder card selected]
- If there's no billing address, open Physical address. Depending on your role, you'll either get a link to add or change the address in your account settings, or a note asking one of your admins to do it.
- Tick the terms checkbox.
- Click Pay {total} and launch study. The button shows Processing payment while the charge runs.
The button isn't greyed out ahead of time. If something is still missing when you click it, a hint appears under the button—Add a billing address to continue, Select a payment method to cover the total, Accept the terms to continue, and so on. Click the hint to jump to the row that needs it.
Adding a Card
Checkout only charges saved cards. To add one, choose + Add a card in the payment row, then click Add card. Your billing page opens in a new tab, and the card waits with Waiting… finish in the other tab. When you've saved the card there, it appears in checkout and is selected for you. Click Cancel to stop waiting.
Promo Code Messages
If a code can't be applied, the field tells you why: This code does not exist., This code has already been used., This code requires at least {n} responses., or This code is not valid for this country.
⚠️ Note: While your payment is processing, the whole study is read-only—design and checkout alike. The terms checkbox also resets each time you reopen or reload the card, so tick it again before you pay.
If the Payment Doesn't Go Through
Nothing is charged when a payment fails, and the study unlocks so you can try again. The card shows one of these:
| What you'll see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Payment didn't go through | The card was declined, or the budget can no longer be used. Click Try again, choose a different payment method, and pay again. |
| Something went wrong | The launch couldn't be completed. Your study is still ready—click Try again in a moment. |
| We can't reach Bridge right now | Our servers didn't respond in time. Nothing has been charged or launched—try again shortly. |
| No internet connection | Reconnect, then try again. Your draft is safe. |
Try again takes you back to the order so you can click Pay again—it doesn't charge on its own. If it keeps failing, Contact support opens a support chat.
Two other things can happen after you click Pay, and neither charges you:
- The price changed. If your total moved since the card was shown, the card comes back with the new total for you to review and pay.
- The survey needs a fix. If the final check fails at this point, the study goes back to Design and Skipper reopens the step that owns the problem.
After You Pay
When the charge clears, the card reads Payment complete, shows your receipt number and date, and offers View receipt. A receipt is also emailed to you with the subject Study launch receipt. Your study moves to Fielding, and a Collection card opens showing 0 / {N} responses.
From then on:
- The design is locked for good. Every design step and the checkout card become read-only. You can still rename the study.
- The receipt stays on the card. Open the checkout card at any time to see it, with Print and Save PDF. Both open your browser's print dialog, where you can save it as a PDF.
⚠️ Note: Paying completes your order, but collection doesn't start the moment you pay. Our team reviews every Bridge survey and then launches it, so your study can read Fielding with 0 responses for a while. That's expected—you don't need to do anything, and you won't be charged again.
