Single Choice Virtual Questions and Multiple Choices Virtual Questions have similar setups, both to one another, and to their similarly-named counterpart question types in the Survey Editor. Choose Single choice for instances where all options you plan to evaluate are mutually exclusive—for example, you’re only measuring ONE demographic, and therefore all respondents will only fit into one bucket. Select Multiple choices for instances when there is data overlap between answer options—for example, when respondents may have been able to select multiple options.

Using Optional Presets

When you select an item from the Optional Presets menu, the system may not automatically reflect a Multiple choices VQ, but once you click the Generate visualization button, if there is overlap detected in answer options, it will display as Multiple Choices.

Configuring Single choice and Multiple choices VQs

1. Click the first drop-down in Answer option 1, and select from Demographic traits, questions in your survey, previously generated virtual questions, group logic, quota groups, and other variable data.
2. Click the second drop-down to further specify answer criteria (e.g. specific answer options, demographic trait groups, etc.).
3. Type or paste an answer label into the Please type a label field.
4. Click an answer option handle and drag an answer option into another position, and click the X that appears upon hover to delete an answer option. 
5. Click the Generate Visualization button. The visualization generated will reflect a single or multiple choice output as appropriate.
6. If you make changes to the answer options, click Update visualization to refresh that VQ.

Note: You can add as many answer options as needed, but keep in mind that each additional answer option will contribute to loading and calculating time.

Using advanced mode

When you click Switch to advanced mode above an answer option, or Switch All to advanced mode, you will see the logic used to pull data for the answer option. You may edit this to fit your needs, but keep in mind that if your output is Zero, you may need to double check that the logic contains a valid logic string.

Comparing to Everyone else

 At any time, check the box next to Everyone else to add an answer option that includes all answers not represented in your programmed answer options.
