When the selected fielding country only offers one non-English language but you want to program and analyze your survey in English, use the Translation tool to set your Researcher language to English.
Setting English as Researcher Language
- Select a country from the Country/Language dropdown and set up your Target Market page.
- Click Write Survey to proceed to the Survey Editor.
- Before you begin programming the survey, click the Languages button in the upper right corner of the Survey Editor.
- Click the Language dropdown and select Set EN as Researcher Language. This creates two columns — English as the researcher language and the original fielding language as the respondent language.
⚠️ Note: The English version will NOT be shown to respondents — it appears in the Survey Editor and the Results page only.
💡 Tip: If your researcher language is accidentally programmed in the wrong language, the platform will detect this and provide an additional option in the Language dropdown. Select Translate this column to __ to update the researcher language to match the country selected on the Target Market page.
Researcher Language Auto Switch Warning
When cloning a survey from one country to another — especially when the destination country supports only a single language — you may encounter a language mismatch warning in the Survey Editor. This feature ensures the survey language aligns with the selected fielding country.
For example, if you clone a survey originally fielded in the US (English) to Italy (Italian), the system will detect a mismatch and display: "Language mismatch detected. Language is currently set to Italian, but the survey below appears to be written in English."
You'll be presented with two options:
- Translate from English to Italian: Automatically translate the survey content to match the language setting on the Target Market page.
- Save English text as a separate survey locale: Preserve the original English content by moving it to a new translation column, allowing Italian to remain as the researcher language.
⚠️ Note: If you choose the second option, go to the Translation Table, click the English language dropdown, and select Set English as the researcher language or Translate and copy from this column to the other language column.
