Margin of Error Calculator

Margin of Error is an estimate of how far true population values may be from the collected sample data. It is generally expressed in percentage points and depends on the size of your Target Market, Sample Size, and the Confidence Level.

Simply put, you want to have the lowest possible Margin of Error, at the highest possible Confidence Level.

You can use this calculator in two ways; to determine margin of error on a completed survey, or to determine the required sample size for a study, depending on your target margin of error.

1. Using the Margin of Error Calculator

  1. From the Margin of Error Calculator page, type your Population size in the text box (this might take some research on your part).
  2. Type your Sample size into the text box, or click Calculate sample size using desired margin of error to use a target margin of error instead.
  3. Click the drop-down menu to select your Confidence Level.
