Optional Open-Ended Fields

Dive deeper into a question by adding a text field to allow respondents to expand on an answer. Collecting these open-ended responses can be a great tool to find out more about the respondents taking your surveys.

Enabling open-response options

  1. Hover over an answer choice, and click the speech bubble on the right side of the answer text field.
  2. Select Optional, Mandatory, or Off.
    - Optional will allow respondents to leave a response if they would like
    - Mandatory requires the respondent to leave a response before moving on.
    - Off turns off the ability for respondents to type in text.

In the survey, when respondents select an answer choice with an open ended response (optional OR required), they will be prompted to fill out a response. All written responses can be viewed in your results page and raw data exports.
