Want to test how your survey results might look before collecting real responses? Before survey launch, users with an Enterprise plan may use Artificial Response to generate an example report with randomly generated "faux" data for an in-depth preview.
Artificial Responses are generated by completely random choices, and any open ends use random text from novels in the public domain. With this tool, dig into your data analysis in advance of launching your survey and make sure you'll get what you want from your data based on your survey design. You can set up custom reports or Virtual Questions in advance and export data and reports. When you launch your survey, the Artificial Responses disappear but your report structure remains.

Activating Artificial Responses
- From the Survey Editor, click the gear icon in the upper right corner to open the Advanced Settings menu.
- Click Generate Artificial Response.
- Once generated, the platform will start building a results page and a button to open it will appear. Click this button to open the results page with artificially generated data.
⚠️ Note: If you have any validations on your survey (errors or limits that would prevent launch), you will not be able to populate Artificial Responses. Clear the validations to proceed.
This report page has the same functionality as the normal data reporting analysis — create reports, filter by questions, answers, and traits, create Virtual Questions, and more. You can share this "faux" results page with your team. When you launch your survey, the report page keeps its structure and replaces the artificial data with real survey data as responses come in.
Adjust the Total Number of Completes
Within the Artificial Response stats page, you can increase or decrease the total number of artificial responses.
- Click the Bar Graph icon on the left toolbar within the Artificial Response report to open View Options.
- Adjust the slider to the applicable number of completes.
- Click Generate Responses.
⚠️ Note: It may take a few minutes for artificial responses to populate.
