Video Responses deliver deeper respondent insights beyond typed survey answers. They're versatile for capturing extra qualitative feedback—like observing product use in a test group. Elevate reports with compelling sound bites.
Limits: 50 videos per survey; each up to 450 seconds (7.5 min) and 250 MiB (~262 MB).

1. Adding a Video Response Question
- Click the Video Response icon in the question menu, or drag it into place on the survey.
- Type or paste your question and instructions into the Question field.
- Click the Add Instructions dropdown to change the prompt type: Upload an Image, Upload Video / Intro / Webcam Capture / Commercial, or No Context.
-
Enter text into the Talking Point fields to guide respondents. Click the + icon to add up to 15 talking points, or copy and paste a list directly into the fields.
Note: Respondents typically address each talking point one at a time. For 30-second videos, provide 1–2 talking points; for 1-minute videos, provide 2–4. In general, limiting prompts to 1–3 talking points yields the best results.
- To remove a talking point, hover over its number and click X.
-
In the Collect field, enter the number of video responses you'd like to collect (up to 50 per survey).
2. Analyzing a Video Response Question
- From the Results page, click the Video Response icon on the right side of the question header. A new page will open showing aggregated video responses and respondent attributes.
- Click the icon next to a Respondent ID to view that respondent's traits.
- Click the emoticon to the left of a video to change its assigned sentiment.
- Click the play button on a video to preview it directly in the pane.
- To download a single video, hover over it and click Download to save it as an .mp4. To download all videos at once, click the Download button next to the search bar to receive a zipped file.
- Click the ellipsis menu and select Open Response to view all qualitative responses from a particular respondent.
- On the Video responses page, a transcript with time codes is automatically generated for any video containing speech. Click any time code to jump to that moment in the video, or click copy transcript to copy the full text to your clipboard.
- On the Verbatims page, transcripts appear as continuous text alongside a compact video player. Click the expand icon to enlarge the player, or click Open transcript with time codes to return to the Video responses page filtered to that specific response.
Note: Transcripts are generated automatically. No message will appear for videos with no audio or no detectable speech. Transcription is supported in multiple languages.
3. Exporting Video Responses
Click the Download button next to the search bar to download a zipped file of all video responses. Transcripts are also included in data exports:
-
Raw CSV — transcript text appears in a column labeled
{question_label}.OE -
Excel with coded map — transcript text appears in a column labeled
{question_label}_OE - SPSS — transcript text is included as a string variable
